IndiGo maintains the largest share, often exceeding 60% of the domestic market, followed by Air India, Vistara, Air India, SpiceJet and Akasa Air.
Given the growth in population and the exhaustion of the resources, the economy has to move towards innovation.
Remember the Cobb Douglas Production Function? It talks about how economic expansion in the long run is possible through technological support.
As a small town girl, I know the struggles India still has with logistics if you go beyond metros. Even though the airline industry looks pretty fancy from a distance it has a lot of untapped potential.
The distance between affordability and value for money is yet to get closed off while buying airline tickets for any average middle class Indian.
A lot of us still run a race with the servers of the Indian railway where the distance is countable in a few hours instead of preferring an airline ticket.
Good to know that, Indian Ministry of Civil Aviation has given approval to three new players in the market : Shankh Air, Hind Air and FlyExpress. We are excited to watch them flourish with opportunities to meet the gap between small towns and metros.
There are approximately 7 lacs villages and 8000 urban agglomerations in India. And guess how many airports are there? Less than 160! That’s like 2% of the urban towns! Forget about villages! They are still struggling with roads and railways.
As per a rough data, it costs ₹1,500-₹2,000 crore for building a small regional airport to ₹15,000-₹30,000 crore or more for major international hubs.
We have miles to go….
I wish to see the traffic signals for the flying air taxis in the sky. The thought is a functional newbee in the industry. Some players are working on my dream 😉
The small town girl is waiting to book that dream ticket from Mumbai to her hometown : Susner! 🙂
God bless Indian Airline Industry 🙏
